Club Competition
PERFORMING ARTS - SOLO, DUO, TRIO (three or fewer participants)
The stage is not accessible to any school group except during performance time. Therefore, it is not available for rehearsals, walkthroughs, blocking for talent or accessible for photos before or after sessions.
This competition includes the following categories: Dancer, Instrumentalist, Variety Act or Vocalist. The performance has a maximum time limit of 2 minutes. Performers will have a total time limit of 4 minutes, which includes set up and take down.
Each club may enter only one of the four categories and have only one entry in this competition.
A club may participate in Solo, Duo, Trio and Group.
Elementary Betas are eligible to compete in Elementary competitions only.
Junior Betas are eligible to compete in Junior competitions only.
Senior Betas are eligible to compete in Senior competitions only.
Competition Guidelines
- If the club is not listed on the app, an adult/participant must check-in with the judges’ table 15 minutes prior to the competition starting . If the participants leave prior to performing they may forfeit the opportunity to compete.
- An electric piano and a sound system will be provided. Music must be given to the sound tech prior to the performance. Individual amps are not provided.
- When a performer is singing, recorded background vocals are not allowed. In addition, when playing an instrument, an accompaniment of the same instrument, is not allowed.
- Lip syncing, defined as pretending to sing in synchronization with recorded vocals, is not allowed (i.e. moving mouth while holding a microphone).
- If a Vocalist is dancing at any point in time during the performance that is considered to be a Variety Act.
- The performance must be contained to the stage area.
- No audio visual technology is allowed in the talent performance, such as but not limited to video, PowerPoint, slide show, etc.
- No inappropriate dance moves, gestures, language, or music.
- Black light performances are discouraged due to the facilities and the inability to turn off lights.
- Acts must clear the stage of any debris following their performance. Water, paint, liquids or other materials that can create a mess are not allowed on stage. However, they may be used to create a work of art. Clean up will be included in the set up/take down time limit.
- A link to the upload form will be emailed when the testing and submission window opens or can be accessed by clicking Talent Upload on the State Convention Registration page. The following file types will be allowed: mp3 mp4 or wav.If your performance contains multiple songs and/or sound effects, they must be combined into one track in order to be submitted. BE ADVISED:
We strongly encourage you to bring a BACKUP copy of your music on a flash drive to convention. - Only microphones provided by the audio visual company hired by National Beta may be used. A total of eight handheld microphones will be provided for the performance.
- The dress for participants in the performance must be appropriate. No strapless, or low cut tops, no midriffs showing, and inappropriate removal of clothing will result in a deduction of points.
- Adults may assist in the set up, but may not participate in any portion of the performance.
- If participating in small group, you must have 4-12 members.
- If participating in large group, you must have 13+ members.
- SAFETY - No use or portrayal of ANY weapons to include the following: bo staffs, nunchaku, sabers, swords,( as used in martial arts) flag poles (as used in color guard) with the exception of PVC pipe less 36" may be used with flags.
- SAFETY - Gymnastic/cheerleading stunts are not allowed with the exception of cartwheels, walk overs, back bends and round-offs performed singularly. No tumbling passes.
- SAFETY - Lifts may be used as long as the feet of the participant being lifted do not go higher than the knees of the person lifting. Lifts must be performed singularly.
- SAFETY - Balloons, hay, fog machines, live animals (Excluding service animals) or fire/open flame are prohibited by National Beta and the facility.
- SAFETY - Throwing items from the stage into the audience is prohibited.
- SAFETY - Metal or wood may not be used in the construction of the scene. However, metal or wooden bases, no taller than 36 inches, can be used to transport and/or support backdrops. Props (table, chairs, bed frame/headboard, etc.) made of wood or metal may be used as intended. Photo/Video Studio Background Stands are prohibited.
- SAFETY - Props and backdrops can be no taller than 12 feet in height including bases.
- SAFETY - Only portable choral risers may be used to elevate participants. No raised or elevated platforms.
- SAFETY - Skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades or hoverboards are prohibited.
