Online Testing Competition Guidelines

• All online academic tests must be completed during the designated testing window prior to the state convention.
•  A club may enter one student in each grade level per content area. 
• Students should complete testing on a desktop or laptop computer using a supported web browser.
• No consultation or outside assistance is permitted during testing.
• Students must be supervised by an approved live proctor for the entire duration of the test. This can be a sponsor, teacher, or school administrator. 
• Completion time will be recorded. In the event of a tie in score, the student who completes the test in the least amount of time will be declared the winner.
• Finalists will be posted in the National Beta app within 2–3 business days following the close of the testing and submission window.
• A student may participate in only ONE Academic test. Creative Writing and Poetry are considered Academic competitions for purposes of this rule.
• Students will need their Beta Member ID, last name, Club ID, and Sponsor email address to access testing. No other student information will be entered into the testing platform.
• If technical issues occur during testing, contact the National Office at 1-800-845-8281.

National Beta Club Online Academic Test Proctoring & Monitoring Policy 

Purpose

To ensure academic integrity and fairness for all participants in National Beta Club online academic testing, this policy establishes the requirements for live proctoring, browser monitoring, and student conduct during online assessments.

1. Proctoring Requirements

• All online academic tests must be completed under the supervision of an approved live proctor.
• The proctor may be a sponsor, teacher, administrator, or other school official authorized to supervise testing.
• The proctor must remain present for the entire duration of the test.
• The proctor is responsible for maintaining an appropriate testing environment and ensuring compliance with all National Beta testing rules.    Pasted markdown

2. ClassMarker Browser Monitoring

• Online academic testing is administered through ClassMarker with Browser Monitoring enabled.
• Browser Monitoring detects when a student's browser focus or mouse leaves the ClassMarker test page.
• Students must remain on the ClassMarker test page for the duration of the assessment.
• Opening or attempting to access another browser tab, window, website, application, or unauthorized digital resource during testing may be recorded by the system and reviewed for compliance with testing rules.
• Screenshots, webcam monitoring, camera access, and screen recording are not used.
• Browser Monitoring supplements—not replaces—the requirement for a live proctor.    Pasted markdown

3. Testing Agreement & Acknowledgment

Prior to participating in online academic testing, clubs must agree to the National Beta Convention Online Academic Test Agreement.

By participating, students, sponsors, and proctors acknowledge that:

1. All testing must be completed under the supervision of an approved live proctor.
2. ClassMarker Browser Monitoring will be enabled during the assessment.
3. Students are expected to remain on the test page throughout the assessment.
4. Activity indicating that a student has left the test page may be reviewed for compliance with testing rules.
5. Failure to comply with testing requirements may result in the student's score being invalidated.

4. Prohibited Activities

While an online test is in progress, students may not:

• Open or access another browser tab, window, or website.
• Use a phone, tablet, smartwatch, or other electronic device unless specifically permitted as part of an approved accommodation.
• Access notes, textbooks, study materials, search engines, AI-assisted tools, or other unauthorized resources.
• Receive assistance from another student, parent, sponsor, teacher, proctor, or any other individual.
• Copy, photograph, record, reproduce, distribute, or share test questions or test content.
• Leave the ClassMarker test page unless directed to do so by the proctor or National Beta staff.

This keeps the prohibited-activity language consistent with the existing rules against other browser windows, electronic devices, and unauthorized resources.    Pasted markdown

5. Violations & Consequences

Any suspected violation may be identified through live proctor observation, ClassMarker Browser Monitoring records, or other available testing information.

Violations may result in:

1. Invalidation of the student's test score.
2. Possible disqualification from other convention competitions, when warranted by the circumstances.
3. Notification of the student's Beta Club sponsor and/or school.

6. Testing Data & Privacy

• National Beta will use information collected through the testing process only for test administration, security, academic integrity, and competition-related purposes.
• ClassMarker Browser Monitoring information may be reviewed when necessary to verify compliance with testing requirements.
• National Beta does not use screenshots, webcam monitoring, camera access, or screen recording as part of its online academic testing process.
• Student testing information will be handled in accordance with applicable National Beta testing procedures.

Acknowledgment

All clubs must agree to the National Beta Convention Online Academic Test Agreement before participating in online academic testing. 

Onsite Testing Competition Guidelines

The following guidelines apply to students who advance to onsite academic testing at the convention:

• Students will be supervised throughout the entire testing period.
• No consultation or assistance is permitted during the test.
• No notes, textbooks, study materials, or other unauthorized resources are permitted.
• Completion time will be recorded. In the event of a tie in score, the student who completes the test in the least amount of time will be declared the winner.
• Students must bring No. 2 pencils.
• Student-provided calculators are permitted only for Agriscience, Math, and Science tests.

Permitted Calculators

Standard four-function, scientific, and graphing calculators are permitted provided they do not include Computer Algebra System (CAS) capabilities.

Prohibited Items

The following items are not permitted in the testing room:

• Phones and smartwatches, except when required as part of an approved medical accommodation.
• Jackets and hoodies.
• Laptops and tablets.
• Calculators with built-in Computer Algebra System (CAS) capabilities, including models such as the TI-89, TI-92, TI-Nspire CAS, and HP Prime CAS.
• Calculators or devices with QWERTY keyboards.

Testing Time

30 minutes for all Academic Tests, with the exception of Language Arts, which has a 45-minute time limit.

How to Enter

1. Visit National Beta registration and follow the registration instructions.
2. Register participating students.
3. Select the appropriate competitions.
4. Select the student who will participate in each competition.
5. Review all selections carefully before finalizing registration.

Changes may not be made after registration has been finalized.

National Eligibility

Academic winners are eligible to participate in the online testing window prior to the National Convention.

Students who earn the highest scores during the National Convention online testing window will advance to the onsite Academic competition at the National Convention.
