Preparation & Responsibilities
These are the responsibilities of newly elected National officers. Stay in communication with the National Sponsor throughout the school year and especially prior to the National Convention to be aware of the convention schedule, areas of responsibility, service project, meetings, etc.
Prior to National Convention
- Receive communication from National Sponsor - approximately 4 weeks prior to the convention
- Write Keynote and send to National Sponsor for approval by date determined. It should be motivational
or inspirational to the audience. The Keynote must be memorized and should be 2 minutes or less when
delivered. - Write Farewell for Final Session. The Farewell will be an opportunity to say thanks for individuals that have
helped you on your Beta journey. It does not have to be memorized. Keep in mind, it must be 30 seconds to 1
minute in length. - Develop Ice Breaker for Candidate Meeting
- Write a card or note of encouragement to candidates
- Keep in mind, you are responsible for your accommodations and transportation to the National Convention.
So, coordinate with your club sponsor, etc. to make the arrangements in plenty of time. Hotel information can
be located on the National Beta website when the information is released.
Dress Code for National Convention
National Beta Club Officer Dress Code Guidelines
To maintain the dignity, formality, and professionalism expected of National Beta Club Officers, all officers are required to adhere to the following dress code during the duration of the convention.
1. Standard Attire Requirements
All officers must wear:
- Black or charcoal suits are required. The suit must be a combination of jacket and pants.
- Dress shirt/blouse
- Beta tie/scarf (will be brought to your State Convention)
- Dress shoes
- National Officer badge (will be brought to the first convention you visit or your State Convention)
2. Religious Exemption Accommodations
Officers who are approved by their school for religious dress exemptions may wear the following alternatives:
- Dresses or Skirts:
- Must be minimum of ankle-length
- Must be in solid black, charcoal gray, or navy blue
- Should be accompanied by a solid black, charcoal gray, or navy-blue blazer or suit jacket
- Permitted if required by religious practice
- Must be in solid, neutral tones that complement the suit or dress (e.g., black, gray, navy)
Note: Exemptions must be approved by the school and submitted to the Director of Convention at least one week prior to the convention.
3. Prohibited Attire
The following items are not allowed under any circumstances:
- Sneakers, athletic shoes, sandals, flip-flops
- Casual tops (T-shirts, polos, low-cut, tank tops)
- Denim of any color
- Skirts or Dresses (except for religious exemption)
- Pants above the ankle (except for medical accommodation)
- Clothing with logos, graphics, or excessive embellishment
- Distracting or loud accessories
4. Compliance & Enforcement
Officers found to be in violation of the dress code may:
- Be asked to change before continuing participation
- Not be permitted on stage
Officer Meeting at National Convention
- This meeting takes place at the beginning of the convention and attendance is mandatory for all National Officers
- Receive your National Officer Notebook, badge, and gavel to use during convention for sessions.
- Review information for the Candidate Meeting.
- Review each session and your areas of responsibility for the convention.
- Arrive at all meetings/sessions at least 30 minutes early and/or the time designated by National Sponsor.

Candidate Meeting at National Convention
- This meeting takes place following the Officer Meeting and attendance is mandatory for all National Officers
- Greet the candidates as they enter the room and assist them in finding their assigned seat.
- Ice Breaker for candidates
- President will call this meeting to order, but all will contribute.
- Arrive at all meetings/sessions at least 30 minutes early and/or the time designated by National Sponsor.
